From a young age, I heard the word 'Burtucala' rolling around in the mouths of my two Moroccan grandmothers without really understanding what it was about.
After all, they just said - Orange. Over the years, the word has taken on a slightly different meaning...
Our name - 'Burtucala', embodies the historical story of trade and economic relations between Portugal (a former colonial power), And among the Mediterranean countries, including Israel, where I was born.
The extensive history of trade relations between the countries has been greatly shaped by one of the leading exports of the Portuguese economy -
The Golden fruit, The Orange.
The fruit became a symbol of trade between Portugal and other regions to the point that its name was pronounced in the language and pronunciation of some Mediterranean traders after the name of the country - 'Burtucala' :)
